How to Use Jojoba Oil for Dry Scalp

Essential oils are becoming increasingly popular. Jojoba oil is made from the seeds of the Jojoba plant that is native to Mexico and Arizona, in the United States. This oil is used in many of the best shampoos and conditioners because of its ability to effectively remove the dead skin from your scalp and is even powerful enough to get rid of dandruff.

It’s best to be mixed with a ‘carrier oil,’ which can be a variety of oils, such as olive oil and coconut oil. If the idea of using an oil on your scalp worries you about having greasy hair, don’t let it. They soak thoroughly into your skin almost immediately on contact. Although they do help your hair by putting nourishment into the roots, they don’t put any oil into or on your hair. An oily scalp and dry ends won’t be a problem.

In this article, we will explain a little bit more about how Jojoba Oil works to hydrate your scalp.  We will also tell you all of the benefits that it provides, and how to use it correctly, to ensure that your hair doesn’t get oily.

What Does Jojoba Oil Do for Your Hair?

When you have a dry scalp, it means that the pores in your skin are clogged with debris from hair-styling products that have gotten under the skin, plus other pollutants. There’s not a lot that you can do to get under the skin to clear the pores, except using an essential oil.

They have many natural healing properties. Some of those are anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, as well as many others. They have been used for hundreds of years, but have only started to become mainstream in the past few decades.

As more people are starting to look for alternative ways to treat health conditions, especially dry skin and scalp, they are turning to essential oils. As additional information is found, the more popular they become.

What Are the Benefits of Jojoba Oil?

Jojoba oil has many benefits for dry skin and scalp. It’s hypo-allergenic, and it is recommended by dermatologists and cosmetologists alike because of its natural healing properties. It has natural vitamins that your skin needs to be healthy.

It can gently rid your scalp of the flakes that are blocking your pores. These blockages are causing your skin to be dry, as your skin has natural oil in it, called sebum. If the sebum can’t come to the surface, your skin becomes very dry.

This oil mimics the skin’s natural oil and sinks into your scalp where it can cleanse the debris from under your skin. When the pores are open, the sebum can start to come back to the surface of your skin.

Since Jojoba hot oil treatment sinks into your skin quickly, there is no need to worry about your hair getting oily.  This will only happen if you put it on dry hair.

How to Use Jojoba Oil for Dry Scalp

Using essential oils is easy. It is different from other shampoo treatments, though.

  • To properly use the oil, you should wet your hair first.
  • Using a cotton ball, apply the oil directly to your scalp, avoiding your hair as much as possible.
  • When it is applied all over your hair, gently massage it into your scalp.
  • You will feel it working virtually immediately. Massage it into your skin in small circular options, and apply a little bit of pressure as you do. This will loosen up the dead skin cells, that will be washed away when you shampoo your hair.
  • Massage it in for a few minutes, making sure to thoroughly treat your entire scalp, and then shampoo as usual.

No Need to Use a Conditioner

You don’t need to use conditioner because the oil will condition not only your scalp. It will put essential vitamins into the roots of your hair, making your hair become stronger and healthier. It does not go on your hair, but it goes inside of the roots and travels up the shafts of the hair, putting nourishment back into it.  You will soon notice your hair becoming healthier.

There are different ways that you can use Jojoba oil as a scalp treatment. You can use it like you would any other kind of hot oil treatment. Put a little bit into the palm of your hand and rub your hands together to warm it up. Massage it into your scalp, and then shampoo your hair. This will replace your hair conditioner.

Sometimes it is combined with other essential oils in skin and hair care products. When it is mixed with other oils, you will reap the benefits of multiple healing properties, and they will clear your pores and restore the health back to your skin even faster.

Mix Jojoba Oils with Carrier Oils

Remember that 100% essential oils are usually found mixed with other oils. The mixture lessens the potency without taking any of the healing properties away. If you were to dilute it with water, you will drastically reduce the healing power of the oil. If you want to dilute it yourself, use coconut or olive oil to do so.

When buying an essential oil for your scalp, is to make sure that the bottle says 100% Jojoba oil, or whichever oil you are buying. Some bottles may say therapeutic grade, and that is good, also.  If the label doesn’t have these on it, then you are not getting what you think you are, and you won’t get the results you were looking for.

Dry scalp is a bothersome and sometimes embarrassing condition. The good news is that you can quickly calm the itching and stop the flaking with essential oils. Jojoba is one of the most commonly used oils for scalp and hair.  It only takes one application before you notice a difference.
